Just wanted to share this picture that I used in my sermon this last Sunday. Had a few folks ask about it so I wanted to go ahead and put it out here. It was painted by an artist named Charlie Mackesy from England. Charlie does some amazing stuff that you can check out on his website.

I found this picture several years ago on the internet and was really drawn to it. It brought something totally new to me that no other painting or artwork had done before. I found myself as that young man being embraced by the father. For years now I have explored this depths of this picture behind the backdrop of Luke 15…the prodigal son story.

Yesterday I talked about this being the picture that represents our relationship with the Father after the curtain in the temple was torn upon the death of Jesus on the cross. For so long the presence of God was only for the high priest once a year as he made sacrifice for the people of Israel. A relationship that was once seen as exclusive and marked by a thick curtain now is seen in this picture…a father embracing his son just as he is.
