Amsterdam, Between Two Worlds
It’s 12:32 AM in Auburn, AL…but 7:33AM here in Amsterdam. We just finished an 8 hour leg from Uganda. Now have a few hours before a 9 hour flight back to Atlanta. But here in Amsterdam it’s like being between two very different worlds. I’ve been sitting here looking at pictures from our trip…bringing me to tears at times. Pictures… digging ditches, carrying water, preaching, singing, eating, playing, laughing, beautiful children, sick people, lost people, hungry people, the faithful, the sent, the obedient, smiles, hugs…all of people planted in my memory and knit into my heart.
Then I look at pictures of what’s ahead…Liza, Grace, Benjamin, Leslie. I’m wondering how much they will have grown since I’ve seen them in 10 days. Will they jump into my arms? Will they like the little toys I’m bringing back for them? I have missed them so much and I come back with so much gratitude for our life together. That they have shoes and socks, that they can go to the doctor when sick, that they don’t worry about the next meal, that they can go to school, and that they can drink clean water.
Guess I got a good dose of gratitude and perspective on this trip.
